PUTTU KADALA CURRY

,

Details of PUTTU KADALA CURRY

Puttu

Ingredients:
• 2 cups of rice
• 1/2 cup of water
• 1 cup of grated coconut
• 1/2 tsp of salt
Cooking method:
Step 1: Soak the rice for about 4 to 5 hours, wash and drain the rice and powder it.(Do not powder it too fine).

Step 2 : On low flame dry roast the rice flour until it is evenly heated about 5 minutes. Take care not to brown the flour.
(Step 1 and 2 can be skipped if we want to use ready made roasted rice flour)

Step 3: Mix the rice flour and salt well together. Sprinkle palm full of water evenly on the flour a few times over and over till the flour is moist enough to hold together but still in a powder form.

Step 4: In the puttu maker drop in a spoonful of coconut and then a fistful of rice flour and repeat the layers till top of the puttu maker.
Step 5: Steam it till you see the steam coming out of the top of the puttu maker (about 5 minutes). When done, with the help of a long skewer Push the puttu out on to a plate.

Black chana/ Kadala curry:

Ingredients:
• 1 cup black channa/kadala
• 1 cup of grated coconut
• 1 tbsp chilli powder
• 1/4 tsp turmeric
• 2 tbsp coriander
• 10 shallots - thinly sliced
• 1 tsp cumin
• 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
• few curry leaves
• Oil as needed.
• Salt as per taste

Cooking method:

Soak black channa over night and cook it in a pressure cooker with turmeric powder, salt and curry leaves with water level just above the channa.

Dry roast coconut, shallots, cumin seeds, fennel seeds.

After about 2 or 3 minutes add coriander powder, turmeric and lastly add chilli powder. Continue for a minute or 2.

Grind the above with very little water

Add the ground mixture to the cooked chana and cook it for some time till masala is well blended with chana. While cooking add a couple of whole cardamom to give it a little flavor. Add more water if you need or cook for longer time if there is too much water

Seasoning: Heat the oil in a pan and when it's hot, add the mustard seeds. When they pop, add the shallots and curry leaves. Roast until the shallots are golden brown. Then bring the cooked chana into the pan and the kadala curry is ready to go with puttu.

EMERGING SCENARIO OF BANKING INDUSTRY : CHALLENGES & COMPETITIVENESS

,

Banking is as old as our civilization. The ancient Romans developed an advanced banking system to serve their vast trade network, which extended throughout Europe, Asia and much of Africa in 395 A.D. The Roman Empire split later into eastern and western sections. The west Roman Empire fell in the late 400 A.D. and most of the trade and financial networks were destroyed and banking almost diapered from Western Europe. However the Justinian code, a collection of laws issued in 500 A.D in the east Roman Empire included many banking laws.

Modern banking began to develop between the 1200's and 1600's in Italy. Earlier the bankers conducted their banking business sitting on a bench in the streets, which was known as BANCO or BANCA in Italy. Later large banking firms were established in Florence, Rome, Venice and other Italian cities and banking activities slowly spread through out Europe. Since 1960' s banking has become much more international in

Mumbai based Podar International School asks 840 students to buy iPads

,

Podar International School, Santa Cruz, has instructed all its students to buy iPads to impart education.
Vandana Lulla, school director-principal, issued a circular last week that claims the management’s decision to use the Apple iPad 2 in the classroom has been welcomed by parents. Some parents, however, feel the move is impractical, distractive and may hamper the growth of students.

The circular states, “Parents now have the choice of either purchasing the iPad 2 from the school on an outright basis or avail of a financial scheme on offer. You also need to indicate if it will be purchased by you on your own.” The school has told the parents to indicate their choice to help them negotiate bulk orders.
The parent of a class II student said, “There has been no consensus on the issue among parents. I am opposed to the move as it will hamper, rather than aid a kid’s education. I would prefer my kid to learn and write using traditional methods, instead of exposing him to advanced gadgets at a tender age. In fact, the school has a good information & technology infrastructure that is sufficient to upgrade a student’s skills.”
Another parent said, “I will shift my student to another school as it is purely a moneymaking racket. It is an irrational decision as examinations will be conducted using the conventional format.”
